Embed a poll on your website
Create a poll, open its page and copy the embed code. Paste it into any page that accepts HTML, and visitors vote without leaving your site.
460 fits about five options with their results.
What the frame shows
The question, the ballot and, once the visitor has voted (or right away, if the poll shows results to everyone), the live results with their bars. Ranked-choice polls show the winner or the leader and the last round. At the bottom, a small link opens the poll on polls.tools.
The poll page of a poll you created shows the same code ready to copy. You can change the title attribute of the iframe to describe the poll for screen readers.
How do I add a poll to my site?
Create the poll on the home page. On the poll page that opens, under “Embed on a website”, copy the code: one iframe tag with the poll’s address. Paste it where your site accepts HTML, such as a Custom HTML block in WordPress, an Embed block in a site builder or the HTML view of a course platform. The frame shows the question, the ballot and the live results, plus a small link to open the poll on polls.tools.
Does the embed slow down my page?
Very little. The code adds no script to your page; the poll loads inside its own frame, and the loading="lazy" attribute waits until the reader scrolls near it. Inside the frame the poll asks for new results every 20 seconds only while the page is open in a visible browser tab and the poll is open, and stops after ten minutes without a click.
How does duplicate protection work inside an embed?
The same way, with one difference that browsers impose. The voter cookie inside the frame belongs to your site’s copy of the poll (browsers keep cookies of embedded frames separate for each site), so a person could vote once in the embed and once on polls.tools itself. Browsers that block cookies in frames altogether, such as Safari, leave only the cap per network address inside the embed. That cap applies everywhere. If one vote per person matters, share only one of the two.
Can I change the size?
Yes. The code uses width="100%" with a maximum of 640 pixels and a height of 460 pixels, which fits a poll with about five options and its results. For more options, raise the height value; the frame scrolls inside if the content is taller. On a phone the frame takes the full width of the column.
Questions about embed a poll
Is embedding free?
Yes, with no account and no branding to remove. The frame shows a small “Open on polls.tools” link at the bottom.
Do I need to add a script?
No. It is a plain iframe, which works where scripts are not allowed, such as many blog, newsletter archive and course platforms. Nothing runs on your page itself.
Do the results in the embed update live?
Yes, every 20 seconds while the page is open in a visible tab and the poll is open, the same as on the poll page.
Can I embed a poll with hidden results?
Yes. The settings of the poll apply in the embed too: results after voting, or after the poll closes.
What happens when the poll expires?
After 90 days the frame shows that the poll has expired, with a link to create a new one.
